Indiana Science Standards have been updated for 2016! The new standards include Computer Science. Below is a brief overview of what we will be discovering as young scientists this year.
Physical Science - simple machines, energy transfer, speed
Earth & Space Science - moon observation, geological forces, reduction of human impact on environment
Life Science - adaptations, survival, internal/external structures in animals and plants; albino rats join us in February for a four-week unit on health, adaptations, and data collecting using the scientific method
Engineering - determine a problem, create multiple solutions, construct a fair investigation
Questions we will consider:
How does a scientist think? What tools does a scientist use?
How does what's alive survive?
What's beneath my feet?
What is energy?
How can I use the design process to solve a problem?
We will read LOTS of science related articles, blogs, reports, and biographies!
Science Bowl is offered for any interested 4th grader. Science Bowl practices and online competition take place in January.
