Discovery Quest
Discovery Quest is an oral question-of-the-week that allows students to learn public speaking skills and independent research skills. Students should prepare to participate once a month beginning in September. The schedule is as follows each week of the month:
Week 1: Student numbers 1-6
Week 2: Student numbers 7-11
Week 3: Student numbers 12-16
Week 4: Student numbers 17-21
Requirements:
1. Choose a quest for the current month
2. Use reference books, family/community member interviews and/or the internet to learn about the topic.
3. Prepare your Google slide presentation or use other multimedia to prepare your presentation. Multimedia must be used in at least two quests during the year. Posters and pictures are acceptable. You may want to invite a guest speaker.
4. Students receive full credit, 100%, if they participate. Acceptable participation means that they do not read their information, but they tell us what they have learned.
This activity should be a fun way to study something that is interesting to students. Look at the attached list of quest topics. Select the most interesting to study for that particular month. Be sure to practice your speech ahead of time so you aren’t reading it word for word.
I am looking forward to a great year of quests!
