Make Writing!
Students will be invited to write physically and collaboratively. They will be given permission to explore writing using diverse tools and processes. One of many resources I will use this year include Make Writing by Angela Stockman. She supports writers as makers. She believes writers need to move, spreading their ideas out across tables and whiteboards, using sticky notes, and cutting apart text to help create new and completely unpredictable forms. We will try some of these techniques while focusing on authentic audiences, timely pieces of writing, and various genres in our writing including units by Lucy Caulkins: Realistic Fiction, Personal and Persuasive Essays, Historical Research, and The Literary Essay. Students will experience a Writing Workshop format.
